What happens when you visit
When a page is requested, your browser transmits what the connection technically requires: your IP address, the time and time zone, the address requested, the status code of the reply, the amount of data transferred, and the identifier your browser reports.
These entries sit in the operating log of the front web server and are deleted there after fourteen days at the latest. The application server behind it logs without IP addresses.
The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, the legitimate interest in secure operation.
We would rather say plainly how this comes about: the server has to know your IP address, or it cannot send you the page — that is not a decision, it is how the internet works. That it then sits in a log for a short while is a decision: without a log nobody notices an attack and nobody finds a fault. No law requires it, and we collect nothing beyond it.
The retention is therefore as short as it can be without defeating the purpose: fourteen days. There is no analysis, no combination with other data and no access from outside.
What does not happen
This site sets no cookies. It embeds no third-party servers: fonts, images, styles and scripts all come from its own server. There is no analytics, no tracking and no disclosure to third parties.
There are no accounts, no sign-in and no contact form.
Storage in your browser
Two tools keep something in your browser's local storage so they can do their job: the world map remembers that you have read its notice, and the building planner keeps the targets you chose so they are still there when you return.
This never leaves your machine and is not sent to the server. You can delete it in your browser at any time; the site then behaves as on a first visit.
Processing on our behalf
The server is rented from Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestraße 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany, and stands in their Helsinki data centre, Finland. A processing agreement under Article 28 GDPR is in place.
No other service providers are involved.
