Always with you: a travel portal in your pack

Off on a long journey? Pack the parts for a portal, and you are home quickly from anywhere.

What works

  • At home, set up a Portal with a fixed tag, say “Travel”. It waits for its partner.
  • In your pack: 20 Finewood, 10 Greydwarf Eyes and 2 Surtling Cores for the portal, plus 10 Wood for a Workbench.
  • On the road, build the Workbench, the portal beside it, give it the same tag and step through.
  • When you set out again, go back through the portal, take down portal and Workbench and pack everything up again.

What doesn’t

  • Leaving an old travel portal standing and building a new one with the same tag. A portal links to exactly one other, and which one it picks is chance.
  • Heading home through the travel portal with ore or metal in your pack. They do not get through an ordinary Portal.

Why?

A portal links to another portal that carries the same tag. If one is already standing at home, all that is missing on the road is the second.

To build a portal, a Workbench must stand nearby. It needs no roof for that; only for making things.

Take portal and Workbench down again, and the game gives you back everything that went into them. So the travel portal costs you nothing but the carrying.

This way you can go home at any time, restock, and come back through the same portal to exactly where you left off.
