Far from home: a bed as your way back
Out a long way from home? Then set up a bed before things get dangerous.
What works
- Put a Bed under a roof with walls and use it once. The game says “Spawn point set”; you do not need to sleep.
- A small shelter is enough, as long as it has a roof and is well closed in all round.
What doesn’t
- A Bed under the open sky. The game refuses: “The bed must be placed under a roof”.
- A Bed with a roof but open sides. Then it says: “The bed is too exposed”.
Why?
When you die, you wake up at your spawn point. Without a bed that is the world’s starting place, often a very long way from your tombstone.
The game sets your spawn point the moment you make a free bed yours, with the first use. It does not need to be night.
You only ever have one spawn point: the bed you made it last. Use your old bed at home again, and it moves back there.
The bed wants shelter: a roof above it and walls that close it in almost all round. It needs a fire only for sleeping, not for the spawn point.
