Brewing mead: the Fermenter needs a roof

Want to brew mead? Then put the Fermenter under a roof, or nothing happens.

What works

  • Put the Fermenter inside a house, or under a tight roof with walls.
  • Add a Mead Base: after 40 minutes of play the mead is ready, and almost every base gives six potions.
  • Go to sleep: time runs on while you sleep, and by morning the mead is well along.

What doesn’t

  • Setting the Fermenter up under the open sky. It then shows “Too exposed” and keeps starting over.
  • Putting it under a porch roof with open sides. A bit of roof is not enough; it needs enough shelter all round.

Why?

Every ten seconds the Fermenter checks how well it is sheltered. If the roof is missing or less than about 70 per cent around it is covered, it sets its clock back to zero. That is why under the open sky the mead is never ready.

You cook the Mead Base in the Cauldron. Only the Fermenter turns it into mead, and almost every base gives six potions at once.

Brewing follows the world’s clock. When the night is skipped by sleeping, the Fermenter brews through that time too.
